Sherri’s Bio

Welcome to my site!

I have been writing since I was a little girl. Lately my motto has been “I live to write and I write to live”.

Writing has always been therapeutic for me, but more so, it has been a passion. Later in years, it became a ministry of sorts, as I realized that the words God had given me had become a source of encouragement and hope to those who read what had been written.

I have published several articles and devotions and for a few years did music and book reviews for a Northwest paper in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. I suppose my favorite genre is writing devotions, as they are not only a personal spiritual journey for me, but also a way to encourage others by allowing them to see that we all walk this life of trials and sorrows but we never walk alone. Because of that, we can walk in joy, showered with the merciful grace of God.

I have been married for 29 years. My husband Ken and I have three great children and one adorable granddaughter, born to our oldest son and her terrific mom, our daughter in-law. At the age of 12, I took a step of faith that Jesus Christ can be trusted and is forever faithful and I have never regretted it. He has been my lifelong Prince since.

I studied English in college and fell in love with British literature during my time there. Having children, I grew an insatiable love for children’s books. My mother in-law taught third grade and as I read many books from her library of children’s classics, my obsession grew. I loved telling stories to my kids and reading to them and I suppose to write books for kids developed and grew from out of those experiences.

My writing is constantly being formulated in my brain but not every day is easy, in terms of getting my thoughts onto paper as I have Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease. It has been a bittersweet journey with this disease, as I have had many bumps along the way, but I have had many more blessings because of it. My understanding of and for those with a chronic illness has deepened immensely, knowing first hand what it’s like. My compassion goes out to not only those who struggle moment by moment and day by day with an illness that they must face head on with each new day, but also for those who care for them (we can be a motley brood to care for!).

I love the title, “The Bumps Are What You Climb On” by Warren Wiersbe. It is a great devotional but the title in and of itself is a complete book alone, for there are bumps all throughout this life we live. It is a life filled with bumps and potholes. We can either climb over the bumps in our pathways, go around the obstacles in the road or step out of the potholes on the trails we are traveling. Of course, the other option could be to give up and stay put, choosing to miss what God has for us. We can look at life in a positive light or focus on the dark that seems to try and rob us of the sunshine. I choose to look up and focus on a God who is majestic and mighty and will not let go of me. He is my rock. He alone gives me the strength to face each new day as I look in the mirror and proclaim that even though I have Parkinson’s, it doesn’t have me – only God has that claim on me. For that I praise Him.

It is my fervent prayer that every word I pen onto paper be a reflection of His heart and that you will not only find hope and be encouraged, but that you will know His truth and if anything is keeping you from that joy, you will be set free.

Send me a note (see contact info page)! I’d love to hear from you!portrait-photo

Sherri, did I just assume you were from Woodbridge, VA. I think I did. Woodbridge could be your last name. DUH! Let me know. Now that I think about it it probably is. My apologies. But I found your site and that is well with my soul! I’ll continue to view your site.

    Again,
    Rhonda from Woodbridge (lol)
